Reorganization of Clark County Probate & Guardianship Courts

The order from Chief District Judge David Barker reassigns probate and guardianship matters in Clark County. Previously, all guardianship matters were heard Judge C. Dianne Steel in Family Court Department G while all probate matters were heard by Judge Gloria J. Sturman in District Court Department 26.

This arrangement was not optimal. Often, a person in need of a guardianship also has a trust in need of court supervision. Thus, the guardianship component was handled by one judge in Family Court while the trust component was handled by a different judge in District Court.

Now, guardianship and probate matters will be heard by Judge Gloria Sturman (Dept. 26), Judge William S. Potter (Dept. M) and Judge Vincent Ochoa (Dept. S). It’s my hope that these new assignments will result in increased efficiency for cases which involve both a guardianship and trust component.
